Ambaji Temple History

Ambaji is a census town in Banaskantha district in the state of Gujarat, India. Its is an important temple town with multi millions of devotees visiting the Ambaji temple every year. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeth.
Location and about the Temple
Ambaji mata temple is a major Shakti Peeth of India. It is situated at about a distance of app.65 Kms from Palanpur, 45 Kms from Mount Abu and 20 Kms from Abu Road. Abmaji is near the Gujarat and Rajasthan border.
In the holy temple of "Arasuri Ambaji", there is no statue of goddess the holy "Shree Visa Yantra" is worshiped as the main deity. No one can see the Yantra with naked eye and hence the photography of the Yantra is also prohibited.
The original seat of Ambaji mata is on gabbar hilltop near the Ambaji town. A large number of devotees visit the temple every year specially on Purnima (Full Moon) days. A large mela on Bhadrapad Poornima is held. Every Year from all over the country people come here walking all over from their native place just to worship MAA AMBA. The whole Ambaji is lighted up as the whole nation lights up at the festive time of Dipawali.
History

Ambaji, the Origin of the Supreme Cosmic Power of the Universe is one of the fifty one 51 ancient Shakti Piths Tirth in India. There are 12 main Shakti Pith Tirth, significant places of pilgrimage for the worship of Shakti, namely, Ma Bhagwati Mahakali Maha Shakti at Ujjan, Ma Kamakshi at Kanchi Puram, Mata Bramaramba at Malay Giri, Shri Kumarika at Kanya Kumari, Mataji Ambaji at Anartgujarat Mata Mahalaxmidevi at Kohlapur, Devi Lalita at prayag, Vindhya Vasini at Vindhya, Vishalakshi at Varansi, Mangalavati at Gaya and Sundari Bhavani at Bangal & Guhya Kesari in Nepal. The Great Miracle of this Holy Place is that there is no picture in the Mandir the Temple of Shri Arasuri Mata Ambaji, but a simple cave in the inner wall, in which A Gold Plated Holy Shakti Visa Shree Yantra having kurma back convex shape and 51 Bij letters therein, connected with that of the original Yantras of Nepal and Ujjain Shakti Piths, is also ritually installed in such a way it can be visible for devotion, but never photographed in past nor can be so done in future. The worship of this Visa Shree Yantra is done only after tying a bandage on the eyes.

According to the Indian Scriptures Gabbar Tirth, situated on the bank of the origin of the Vedic virgin river SARASWATI, in the hills of Arasur in Ambica forest, towards south-west side to old hills of Arvalli is one of the Fifty One (51) famous Ancient Pauranik Shakti Piths in India.
In Accordance with the legend in Devi Bhagvat, Mahisasur was a dangerous demon to the whole universe, therefore all the Gods under the leadership of Tridev Bhrahma (Lord of Creation), Vishnu (Lord of Maintenance) & Mahesh (Lord of Destruction) ultimately went to the final recourse to the Mahadevi Adhya Shakti, the Supreme Original Cosmic Power of The Universe and worshiped her for rescue and help. And then Adhya Devi Shakti incarnated on earth with weapons surrounded by a bright circle of sunny rays, so as The Atomic Energy emerges from its origin and Devi killed and absolved the demon Mahishasur by her holy sword and since then she became known in the world as "Mahisasur Mardini".

The formation of the Shri Ambaji Temple-Malacca Gujarati Samaj was on Sunday, the 23rd day of April 1972 at 10.30 a.m. The meeting was held at the Dewan Hang Tuah and a total of 75 Gujaratis were present. Subsequently, a Protem Committee was formed and unanimously elected and they were:-
Datuk C.M.Seth, DKSJ., AMN., BKT., MBE.,JP. (President)
Mr. N.V. Patel PJK (Organising Secretary)
Mr. Gordhan Amba Vaghasia (Committee Member)
Mr. Mohanlal Manji Babria (Committee Member)
Mr. Khimjee Bhimjee P.B.M (Committee Member)
Mr. Shantilal Maganlal (Committee Member)
Mr. Ratilal Tribhovan Timbadia (Committee Member)
The draft Constitution of SAMAJ, which was prepared by the Organising Secretary, was duly approved on the 29th day of November 1973 by the registrar of Societies. The Protem Committee Members were informed of this great news on the 26th day of May 1974 following which on the 1st day of june 1974 the SAMAJ  Constitution came into  force.
The main intention was to build a Temple, the only of its kind in Malaysia, a hall and residential rooms for the use of all Gujaratis. A sum of RM 30,000.00 was collected from members and well wishers for this purpose. The Committee then immediately took steps to look for a site for the temple and on the 19th day of January 1973 a suitable piece of land located at jalan Ujong Pasir was purchased. The complete transfer of the said Land was executed on the 14th day of March 1973 to the Trustee of the Malacca Gujarati Samaj, namely:-
Datuk C. M. Seth;
Mr.Bava Harji s/o Harji Rana;
Mr. Shantilal Maganlal Sanghvi; and
Mr. Khimjee s/o Bhimjee.
The foundation stone of the Temple was then laid by the Late Datuk C. M.Seth on Friday the 25th day of October 1974 at 7.30 a.m. which witnessed by the founder members.
To quote K.M. MUNSHI, a notable Gujarati writer once said…. “ wherever the Gujaratis go, they try to keep their culture alive….they come into closer contact with the local residents and interact with them….”, but ALWAYS remain distinct as an independent indentity – THE GUJARATI ( a.k.a the GUJUS amongst their close friend).
As the Shri Ambaji Temple-Malacca Gujarati Samaj evolves into its 25th anniversary this year, we must not lose sight of our duties at hand. The past may serve as reminder and a source for fruitful reflections in our search for meaningful progress. Throughout the years, the Temple has seen many changes since its humble beginning way back in 1960’s. Though most of its founder members are no longer here with us, we will always remember them not only as pioneers but also as a group of dedicated individuals who shared a common and noble vision. I pay tribute to them and also to many other very dedicated and energetic individuals who selflessly served this Temple in the past.
I also wish to thank the members of the Management Committee who have worked untiringly with me and for their sincere and selfless service to the Temple. Let  us all work hand in hand to enable the Temple to grow in bigger ways and carry the noble ambitions of our former leaders and founders to greater heights.
